His Seattle based record label, started from humble beginnings, signed an unknown group named Nirvana which helped put Seattle "on the map." Join Pavitt for an intimate look at what it was like in the early years, including images from his book and photography exhibit Experiencing Nirvana. In addition to the author's presentation, the Experiencing Nirvana Photography Exhibition will be on view from July 12 - September 21 on the second floor of the Pompano Beach Cultural Center. There will be an exhibition opening reception on Friday, July 12 from 6 - 9 pm. In this exhibit, Pavitt captures intimate moments of Kurt Cobain and his new band as they travel through Europe in1989. By the time they reach London for a Sub Pop showcase, the relatively unknown Seattle group are proclaimed "Sub Pop's answer to the Beatles" by the influential British press. Within two years, Nirvana would become the biggest rock act of their generation. This is the photographic story of the breakthrough that almost never happened.
