Paddle along the spectacular Florida coast in Broward County just a quick drive from Deerfield. Anne Kolb Nature Center is a 1,500-acre protected wetland featuring trails for sightseeing and fishing. You can observe rare wildlife and plants in their natural habitat, including endangered species. Explore a three-mile trail through a mangrove preserve and learn about this fragile ecosystem in the Exhibit Hall. Also, check the calendar for frequent programs in the Eco-Room for kids and adults alike and don't miss the 3,500-gallon saltwater aquarium. If you love to bird watch, the nature center is part of the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail that extends through the state.
One of the highlights of Anne Kolb Nature Center is the annual turtle hatching. Sea turtles nest in Broward County from March through September, and you can see these amazing turtles and their babies up close during their special summer program. Just note, that this very popular family activity usually sells out, so check in advance for reservations. And mark your calendar for May 2017, because that's when the next set of reservations will be available for next summer.
There is a small fee to enter the preserve on weekend and holidays ($8 per vehicle or $1.50 per person) but it is free on weekdays. The preserve is located off of I-95, you can drive there from our hotel in about 30 minutes.
