If you are in South Florida on Saturday, March 5th, you will want to attend the Sea Turtle Day Festival at the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center in Boca Raton.
The mission of the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is to increase public awareness of coastal and marine eco systems through research, education, preservation and conservation.
The Gumbo Limbo Nature Center was formed in the 1980's in partnerships with the city of Boca Raton and Florida Atlantic University. The facility includes an outdoor classroom and a Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Facility.
Local sea turtle nesting activity is marked, monitored and studied by Marine Turtle Specialists and Marine Conservationists. In addition to protecting newborn turtles, the team responds to reports of dead or injured sea turtles from the Boynton Beach Inlet to the Boca Raton/Deerfield Beach border. The Marine Conservationists also work closely with the city regarding beachfront development including construction, dune preservation and beach nourishment.
The Sea Turtle Day Festival is a great opportunity to experience the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center with the family. Events begin at 9 am and go throughout the day until 4 pm. There will be aquarium feedings, Live Animal Presentations, Nature Walks, Exhibitors and more. There will be free parking and shuttle bus service to and from Spanish River Park. Admission to the Festival is FREE with a suggested donation of $5 per person.
The Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is located just a short 10 minute drive from the Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort Hotel. The hotel's convenient beachfront location makes it easy to enjoy all that South Florida has to offer from relaxing on the beach, fishing from the International Fishing Pier or taking in the many of the areas museums, theaters and entertainment attractions.
